Vitamin A (retinol) improves the flexibility and density of the skin by regulating the keratinization and healing process. In addition, it works as a dermal antioxidant, destroying free radicals that cause tissue and cell damage. Vitamin B acts on the metabolism of essential fatty acids, contributing to the biological balance of the skin. Vitamin C neutralizes free radicals, inhibits localized hyperproduction of melanin and enhances the synthesis of collagen, an important protein that strengthens the structural support and elasticity of the skin. Vitamin E works against free radicals by inhibiting hydrogen peroxide. Amino acids exert an action on protein synthesis by fibroblasts.
Collagen is mainly composed of proline, hydroxyproline, and lysine. Elastin is mainly made up of aspartic acid, threonine, and serine. They are all amino acids. Minerals exert an ionic action on several hundred enzymatic reactions and essential cellular functions. As cofactors, minerals enhance the different biological metabolisms; for example, magnesium is involved in 180 enzymatic reactions. Coenzymes, for their part, catalyze the body's metabolic reaction rate, reducing the amount of energy required for reactions to occur. In this way, these biochemical activators increase the speed of tissue construction.
